Frequently Asked Questions
How Does A Home Inventory Work? When you contact us, we will ask you information about the size of your home and contents (see Scheduling Information to view these questions). We will then give you a cost estimate and make an appointment to inventory your home.
When we arrive, we request that someone accompany us, room by room, to highlight important personal items that may not be easily apparent. We will then inventory your belongings by digital video, photographs, and written documentation. Payment in full will be due on this date. We then return to our offices to prepare your portfolio which will be shipped to you via certified mail within 7-10 business days. What types of items will be inventoried? The exterior of your home including landscaping and architectural features will be videotaped.
The interior, including the garage, basement and utility space showing contents, will be videotaped and photographed. We advise capturing the contents of cupboards, closets, and storage areas with your permission. Written documentation and digital photos (including serial/model numbers, if accessible) will be made of important items such as valuable rugs, fine furniture, jewelry, collectibles, firearms, fine art, antiques, furs, office equipment, appliances, computer equipment, television sets, and other items of value. What about the security & privacy of my information?
Your privacy is paramount. We provide a written guarantee that your home inventory information will never be given or sold to anyone unless under lawful court order. Our home inventory processing is not networked or sent via internet. Thirty days after you receive your completed home inventory, all data is deleted from our computer system. How do I prepare my house for a home inventory?
No special preparation is required other than having important or valuable items in mind that you would like to have specifically detailed.
Your house need not be in perfect order. The most important thing is that we can see the items. We do ask that pets and children are supervised for safety purposes. Can you appraise my items?
We are not licensed appraisers and cannot estimate the value of your items. If you have original receipts or professional appraisal documents, we can include them in the inventory. If not, the values listed in your home inventory portfolio will be based on your estimates.
What do I do in case of theft or destruction?
If you have safely stored your back-up copies, you can forward them to your insurance company for expedited processing of your claim and, if your property was stolen, to law enforcement authorities.
